Note: The only departmental scholarships that accept applications from students are the Minna Rosenbaum Divers Memorial Scholarship, the Jack J. Reid Study Abroad Scholarship and the Tweraser Scholarship. All other departmental scholarships are selected by a scholarship committee. NOTE: Some awards require FAFSA completion.
Lastly, be sure to review the Fulbright College Scholarship Application. Their application deadlines are February 15.
Minna Rosenbaum Divers was the late Emerita Professor Diane Blair's mother. Minna Rosenbaum Divers was one of Colorado's first female lawyers. Divers served in the Roosevelt Administration as an attorney with the Public Works Administration and served on the staff of several members of the U.S. Congress. Professor Blair established this fund to support outstanding Political Science undergraduate(s) who have demonstrated a commitment to, and plans for, a career in public service.
To be eligible for consideration for the Divers Memorial Award, applicants must:
- Be rising juniors or seniors with a GPA or 3.00 or above.
- Complete an official application. Due March 1.
- Attach a resume, which should include, but is not limited to, public service work and extracurricular activities.
- Submit an essay of approximately 500 words detailing the student's plan for a public service career.
- Include three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a University of Arkansas faculty member.
This scholarship is given in honor of Dr. Margaret Reid's late husband, Jack J. Reid. Dr. Reid was a professor of comparative politics and international relations at the University of Central Oklahoma before his retirement. His passion was to take student groups to Europe where they would meet with public elected and appointed officials on matters of foreign affairs, social policy, and local issues. The scholarship is presented to an outstanding Political Science undergraduate or graduate student to support costs associated with an international study abroad experience, including but not limited to, tuition, travel, and accommodations.
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in the Department of Political Science.
- Have started the process with the Study Abroad Office to participate in a study abroad experience for at least 3 weeks, preferably associated with an internship or workshop.
- Maintain at least 3.2 GPA.
- Submit a one page essay on what applicants hope to learn from their experiences.
- Submit Jack J. Reid Study Abroad Scholarship Application. Due March 1.
Professor Kurt Tweraser came to the University of Arkansas in 1966 and retired in 1991. One of his former students established this scholarship in Dr. Tweraser's name to support outstanding Political Science and International and Global Studies undergraduates who have demonstrated an interest in international politics, international relations, international organizations, and/or international law.
To be eligible for consideration for the Kurt K. Tweraser Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be rising juniors or seniors with a GPA of 3.00 or above.
- Complete an official application. Due March 1.
- Attach a resume.
- Submit an essay of approximately 500 words detailing the student's interest in international politics, international relations, international organizations, and/or international law.
- Include three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a University of Arkansas faculty member.
Students must apply for the scholarship in the semester before they begin the MPA program. Applications will be verified and collected by the Graduate Coordinator.
To be eligible for consideration for the Gosack Scholarship, applicants must:
- Have an overall 3.5 GPA
- Hold either a teaching or research graduate assistantship within the Department of Political Science. Students are expected to conduct teaching and research as assigned and assist professors with research or community projects that align with the student's area of interest.
At the end of each semester, submitted portfolios will be reviewed to meet the following criteria:
- student has submitted a minimum of three portfolio artifacts of high quality and have completed all other portfolio requirements without requiring revisions (see handbook for specifications);
- student gave a high-quality oral and visual presentation of their portfolio and was able to provide thoughtful and well-reasoned answers to any follow up questions or elaborations by the reviewing faculty;
- student was able to articulate clear career goals with which the portfolio entries are aligned.
- The Academic Scholarship Office is a resource for prospective and current undergraduate students seeking scholarship funding. The primary task of the Academic Scholarship Office is to administer university-wide merit-based scholarships. In addition, they serve as a clearinghouse for scholarships awarded by academic departments and outside agencies. Their goal is to support the university's mission of recruiting and retaining high-achieving students who help to enrich and diversify the academic environment of the University of Arkansas.
- The Cleveland C. Burton Undergraduate Fellowship in International Studies offers $4,000 for undergraduate study abroad during one calendar year.
- The King Fahd Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies offers two-year undergraduate scholarships for superior students interested in pursuing the study of the Middle East or Islam, as well as additional study abroad and conference scholarships for qualified students.
- Fulbright College awards approximately 800 scholarships each year, totaling more than $1.7 million in support for undergraduate and graduate students. They are available to Fulbright College students through university, college, department, and external sources. Students are encouraged to explore these funding sources that provide pathways to new experiences at the university and abroad.
- The J.W. & Elizabeth W. Fulbright Endowed Scholarship for Study Abroad supports a year of study abroad for undergraduate students of the humanities and classics.
- Sturgis International Fellowships are designed for advanced undergraduates in the Fulbright College Honors Program or graduate students in Fulbright College. These Fellowships support long-term, study-abroad projects (one semester or more) that pertain to community development, sustainability, international relations, human rights, comparative literature, and other forms of creative expression with a multi-national dimension.
- Project Vote Smart will provide three scholarships to U of A students to work at its Great Divide Research Retreat during the coming Presidential Election cycle. Scholarships provided through Hearts Foundation funding and Vote Smart members cover all living expenses.
- Military Students at the University of Arkansas - The Academic Scholarship Office seeks to assist Military Students at the U of A in finding new scholarship opportunities to help fund their U of A education.

- Boren Scholarships (for undergraduates; up to $20,000 for an academic year's study) and Boren Fellowships (for graduate students; up to $30,000 for language study and international research) are available for overseas study. In exchange for funding, recipients commit to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year. These awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations.

- The Critical Language Scholarship Program is an intensive overseas fully-funded, language program for 7-10 weeks each summer. Undergraduate and graduate students live and study at more than 20 sites abroad.

- The Learn How to Become - Women's Scholarship Search is a scholarship search tool to help women find financial aid opportunities based on subject area, eligibility and program level.
- The Morris K. Udall Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships recognizes Native American and Alaska Native undergraduates with the commitment and potential to make significant contributions to tribal public policy or Native American health care. The scholarship is available here.
- The National Federation of Republican Women's Betty Rendel Scholarship, established in 1995 is three annual scholarships of $1,000 awarded to female undergraduates who are majoring in political science, government or economics and have completed two years of college coursework.
- The Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) Summer Scholarship Program is an Ambassador program that launched in 2005. The program is designed for students to represent their state, as well as the United States, while acting as ambassadors to Taiwan. - The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation offers the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship to help highly motivated and academically excellent college graduating seniors or college graduates who want to pursue a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. The Organization of American States offers interest-free loans of up to $15,000 to eligible students who are completing their last two years of undergraduate or graduate studies across a wide range of fields. This assistance can cover tuition fees and living expenses, providing invaluable support to these deserving individuals. Additionally, Rowe Fund recipients can also apply for a supplementary scholarship of $2,000 if they are pursuing STEM or environmentally related fields.
